The cruise industry has featured frequently in headlines due to its mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic. As restrictions are eased, CityLab explores the unsustainability of the cruise sector and the problems it causes in port cities, with the input of WahV co-founder Jane da Mosto.
“We lived on a toxic diet of mass tourism that was just a way of having money in the short term,” says da Mosto, whose organization promotes focusing the city around the needs of its dwindling number of full-time residents. “What Venice needs is to be repopulated.”
