In this article, Valeria Necchio reflects on the challenges facing Venice: climate change, mass tourism and persistent institutional inertia. Highlighting the contradictions between the difficulties of official responses and the strength of bottom-up initiatives, promoted by associations and active citizens, working for concrete change, Venice is proposed as, a model for rethinking the future of fragile cities. For this reason, the Vital initiative is mentioned, born out of the collaboration between We are here Venice and LagunaB, to date in partnership with universities and international companies, with the aim of protecting and regenerating the natural capital of the Venice Lagoon, for the benefit of present and future generations.
