The third edition of the educational project Giants of the Lagoon, which this year involved two secondary schools in the Venice area, has concluded after a training seminar for teachers, two classroom sessions and a field trip with the only fully electric water bus operating in the lagoon to understand and observe the fundamental elements of the wetland habitat up close. At the beginning and end of this journey thoughts and drawings by pupils on their perception of the lagoon were collected and a selection will be shared through the municipal bill-posting around Venice and Mestre from 30 April.
On 7 May, all seven classes taking part this year – 1A, 1B, 1I Spallanzani, and 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D Morosini – will gather in Campo San Giacomo from 9 am for a treasure hunt involving local businesses and clues hidden among the posters of Giants of the Lagoon. From 10:30 am the public is invited to hear the young citizens present their experience in Campo.
On the following days, on 8 and 9 May from 5.30 p.m., local residents together with Venice visitors are invited to a guided walk to discover the lagoon through the project’s stages and the drawings of participating pupils. The exploration will last approximately one hour and will take place around Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio. Participation is free and to register, please send an email to didattica@weareherevenice.org, specifying a preference of two dates. In case of rain, the event will be postponed.
Giants of the Lagoon was developed within the framework of the WaterLANDS European project (GA 101036484), which focuses on the regeneration of wetlands in Europe, and of which We are Here Venice ETS is the Italian partner.
